In this issue, Dr. Clifford H. Scott’s article examines the “cultural flu epidemic” of German Americans in World War I, with a preface by Ethan Bowers, Collection Manager. The publication details some of the issues German-Americans faced as they registered their status as “German Alien Enemy” while trying to maintain their cultural identity in the face of the local Council of Defense.

Also in this issue: A Hero for the Home Front: Lieutenant Paul F. Baer cites several of Baer’s accomplishments during the Great War and includes a reprint of a letter to his mother first published in the News-Sentinel, 20 May 1918.
