Once believed to have been Worn by Lt. Henry C. Moriarty during the Spanish American War, 1898. This is a 1902 style Military Saber M1902, it is unlikely it was actually worn in Spanish American War. This model was manufactured from 1902-1925/1926, this style of saber is still used for presentation and dress today. According to mlitary records, Moriarty was from New Haven and served as a recruit/private for a few months in 1898 during the Spanish-American War. However, he continued service some time after into the Indiana National Guard. It is unclear whether he served during the entire period from 1898 - 1918, or enlisted later as WWI drew closer. Based on his rank he either re-enlisted as an officer due to education or qualification, or he worked up the ranks during a longer period. This is an officer's saber and was likely worn by Moriarty with his dress uniform and for presentation as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Indiana National Guard, 150th Field Artillery. - EWB 2019
