Title:
The Cabinet Flour Bin and Sifter
Description:
Perhaps nothing is more necessary in life than eating. Yet how we store and prepare what we eat has changed greatly. This cabinet flour bin and sifter is dated 1898, and is similar to what would typically have been found in a Hoosier Cabinet. These cabinets were made by several manufacturers around the turn of the twentieth century, but most were made in Indiana. They provided a well-organized, compact cabinet to meet the needs of the home cook. In addition to the organization allowed by the cabinet itself, this flour bin and sifter also had several compartments for holding other necessary ingredients for storing and preparing food, such as baking soda and powder, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.
